Schrammel – Illusions & Carnival Exhibiton

Fashion & Costume Artist: Eszter Polyák
Hairpiece: Barbara Gosztony

Organized by the Hungarian Academy of Arts and the Cultural Foundation for Textile Art, this unique exhibition showcases the work of ceramic artist Schrammel Imre. His carnival-themed porcelain figurines have inspired an array of fashion pieces, textile sculptures, headpieces, masks, and shoes displayed in the exhibition space.

Fourteen textile and costume designers have created exclusive compositions in tribute to Schrammel Imre’s artistic legacy. The exhibition highlights the synergy between different art forms, merging ceramic and textile design in a distinctive way.

A special highlight of the exhibition is the public debut of Schrammel Imre’s paper collages, which were created over the past two decades as visual designs for his luster and eosin-glazed silicate sculptures. Though the sculptures were never realized, these collages hold significant artistic value and are an essential part of his oeuvre.

Curators have extended the artistic dialogue by inviting contemporary fashion and textile designers to reinterpret Schrammel’s porcelain sculpture designs through an intermedia approach. The resulting textile sculptures, costumes, and accessories reflect his carnival-inspired aesthetic, particularly the porcelain designs he developed for Herend Porcelain Manufactory in the 1990s.

The dual exhibition aims to demonstrate the lasting influence of master artists on future generations, as well as the unique reinterpretation of artistic themes across different applied art disciplines.

Venue: Pesti Vigadó, Hungarian Academy of Arts Headquarters (1051 Budapest, Vigadó tér 2, Ground Floor Exhibition Hall)
